What the Central Committee does
The Central Committee oversees the Buffalo Area A.A. Central Office, a local service center that A.A. groups set up and support together. It is made up of representatives from participating groups and the chairs of its service committees. Together they:
- Responsible for administration of the Central Office, which takes calls and visits from anyone who needs help, connects newcomers with A.A. members and keeps A.A. literature in stock for groups
- Oversee service committees that carry the message into treatment centers and jails, to professionals and the public, and through the after-hours phone volunteers
- Give participating groups a place to share information and coordinate local service
Any A.A. group in the area can send a representative. The Central Committee meets on the first Sunday of every other month at 7:00 PM.
The Central Committee is separate from A.A.’s general service structure. For districts, the Area assembly and the General Service Conference, visit Area 50, Western New York at area50wny.org. The Central Committee elects a GSA Liaison who attends both the Area 50 assemblies and our Central Committee meetings and keeps each informed about the other’s work.
